He has been in Florida learning theatre and now they are trying to keep him and are making him dance his way home.

ACT Summer 2008 Youth Theatre Camp

OK, we all can feel that this summer is going to be special - Hey, it is summer! and ACT is close to having a home!! AND Stephanie has been planning (everyone look out!!) with UK theatre to have a first ever Kentucky Theatre Project!!

What is the Ky Theatre Project??

Well, for the first two weeks in June, Stephanie will be teaching Pike County Kids while UK Theatre will be teaching Lexington kids...Then all kids will come together...in Pike County for the third week. They will create a show that will be produced in Lexington and Pike County.

This project will mix up the east and the central... the country and city...the urban and the rural...Pike County Students will get to taste UK Theatre and know that it is a possibility. Lexington Students will get to know Pike County Kids and know that there is a creative place to come in the mountains and thrive!

It may not be the sharks and the jets coming together...but it will be a blast!!! so get ready Kentucky!!! For the Ky Theatre Project...and next summer we will go from Pike to Paducah!!

ACT Theatre Is Going Up!

Thirty days can certainly make a difference...and if you have been around ACT theatre, you will believe it! Mid February, Ralph King, ACT board member and website extraordinare, said to Stephanie Richards, "this is doable." And that was what it needed. With that, February 23 was the first volunteer build and build they did!! 37 volunteers laid two layers of theatre flooring so beautifully, even Richards couldn't find anything to be picky about!

And the progress has continued! Electric has continued (whew..important for a theatre!) Plumbing is done (ok, arguably just as important!)and WestCare has partnered with ACT to insulate and sheetrock the world...twice over again! And it is beautiful.

What's next? oh that was the lobby and office space - this week we go 16 feet in the air to do the theatre proper! Tickets should be on sell for this event alone!!

Austin Takes the Helm

Austin Abshire has taken the responsibilites of Multi-Media in the absence of Bryan (Mr. Intern In Florida) on the Production of The Way Home. He is doing incredible - not just with his technical skills - but the critical thinking skills, processing, problem solving, patience and ownership of the work. Whoever is training him in this theatre thing is doing a great job! LOL!

Really Austin deserves all the credit and is making us all proud to get to work with him.

Bryan Ratliff in Florida

Bryan Ratliff has been in Florida for three months and has seen the beach two, count them...two times. His version of Florida is currently the black inside of Venice Little Theatre (it is not little by any means:)

Bryan is interning on scholarship for the year and doing great. The stories he is racking up - already been on CNN!!!!!!

Pike Arts Gets Governors Award

Pike County Extension for Fine Arts has been awarded the Governor's Award for 2006! The award was presented in Feb - But will be dedicated to Pike County at the First Friday Reception in April at the Pike County Artisan Center.

Come out and be part of the Pike Arts!!!!

Let There Be Light!!!!

Driving by the new ACT theatre at night lately, you may notice something different. There is light glowing from the windows! Eddie Morton has been working on the electric installation and it is beginning to look more and more like the place in our dreams.

ACT Remounts The Way Home for Local Audience

ACT will be hitting the boards again this weekend March 23, 24 and 25 @ East Ridge Theatre. After a successful run last fall with this innovative look at women's health issues regarding cancer, ACT returns to its current home stage, East Ridge Theatre. The shows will be Friday and Saturday @ 7:30 and Sunday @ 3:00. Tickets availabel at the door.

The production has seen some major success. After a great artistic run at Pikeville's Booth Auditorium, the production went on the road and entered the world of theatre competition at the Kentucky Theatre Association Festival in November. The cast and crew had a wonderful experience and came home to Pike County with two State Awards. Mary B. Anderson won Best Supporting Actress and Bryan Ratliff won Best Multi-Media.

We will be going on the road again in June to be the featured edu-tainment for Team-Up COnference. Way to go ACT!

ACT Takes it on the road

ACT was in Lexington last weekend to enter the KTA Community Theatre Festival. Along with ACT were five other community theatres throughout the state. Although the top prize went to the Hardin County Playhouse for their production of "Wit", ACT is proud to let you know that two individual awards were brought back home to Pike County.

Mary B. Anderson, who played "Pat", was awarded Best Supporting Actress of the festival, and Bryan Ratliff, who ran the projected images on the multi-media screen, and technical director, was awarded best multi-media. Their hard work and dedication to help build the arts in Pike County have paid off, and both awards were very well earned. Kudos to everyone involved, for without you, such a great show couldn't have taken place.
